St Nicholas’ Charity Run on 7 December

TU Darmstadt runs 2.0! Supporting our students

The University Sports Centre will be hosting a St Nicholas’ run on 7 December to raise money for students facing financial hardship.

Who can participate?
Students, employees and staff, alumni and friends

How fit do you have to be?
You choose the location, distance and speed of your run yourself. Whatever it is you can manage will be ok. Every kilometre counts!
But most importantly: Don’t put your health at risk. If you’re injured or don’t feel well, you can spur on and welcome the runners near the finish line instead.

When does this fundraising run take place?
On Thursday, 7 December 2023, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. You will be able to register as a runner starting on 16 November 2023.

What is being promoted and financially supported?
By participating, you will run for a good cause.
The Förderverein für in Not geratene Studierende (an aid association at TU Darmstadt) provides financial support to students of TU Darmstadt who are facing social or financial hardship. The funds required to do so are raised by the University Sports Centre through this fundraising/donation event.

What else do I need to know?
Every kilometre counts when we run together for our students.
The main focus, however, is on having fun while participating in the St Nicholas’ run—be it as a single runner or in a team—wearing comfortable sportswear or a Christmassy dress up!

Can I donate without running?

Of course, you can also donate without taking part in the run. Every donation helps!

Join in and run!

As a single runner or in a team—all of us together for a good cause! At the end of the St Nicholas’ run, we’ll meet at the large open space in front of the University Stadium for a cheerful get-together with Christmas tunes!

I’m looking for somebody or a team among my friends and family willing to donate at least 2 euros to the students’ fund for every kilometre that I’ll be running, jogging or walking on 7 December 2023 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. This could be:

• Members of my shared apartment/flat pooling their donation;

• My work team that wants to support my sports activities… and possibly joins me as a running team;

• My spouse/partner who will enjoy a quite cup of coffee at a café, decorate our home for Christmas or will simply turn up the music real loud while I’m gone;

• The bakery around the corner where I buy my breakfast buns every morning;

• My neighbours who always have a smile and a nice word, whose mailbox I check and whose plants I water whenever they’re away on holiday;

• My grandpa who slips me some money now and then.

I enrol for the St Nicholas’ run using the online form below. I will receive a confirmation email with a link for uploading the records of my run after the run.

My personal sponsor(s) will also receive a mail with a link for entering their personal data. This information will only be used by TU Darmstadt to organise the fundraising run. Personal data will not be passed on to third parties.

I would like to start as a team

You do not have to register a team separately.

On the registration form, the input fields for the runners' details also include the input field “Team” – simply enter the name of your team there.
That's it, your team is registered and you are a part of it..

Important:
Each team needs a team leader. This person must also click on the entry field “Team Captain” in the registration form.

The laps of all runners who have entered the same team name will then automatically be counted as kilometres for this team.

On 7 December 2023: Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., I’ll do as many kilometres as I can on foot on a route of my own choosing. I’m allowed to walk, power walk, jog, run or sprint. I can start, pause and resume my run at any time.

It is not about winning. It is about doing something together, about giving everybody a chance to contribute as best as they can. Having fun while at it goes hand in hand!

Directly after finishing my run, I’ll click on my personal link to connect with the University Sports Centre. I’ll enter the distance that I’ve just finished. To confirm the route and distance that I’ve run, I’ll upload a picture, ideally a digital recording of my run (stopwatch, GPS device…) Alternatively, I’ll upload a selfie of myself at my personal finish line, out of breath, sweating but happy and proud!

To give everybody a chance to ooh and aah my performance, the records of my run will be posted on the St Nicholas’ fundraising run (uncommented and made anonymous). This information will also be sent to my sponsor(s).

Now, my sponsor(s) will be donating

at least 2 euros per kilometre I’ve done on foot onto the donations account of the Förderverein für in Not geratene Studierende e.V. (aid association for students in need):

I’m aware of the following:

For donations up to 300 euros, the Finanzamt (tax office) has been recognising remittance forms as donation receipts since 1 January 2021.
For donations beyond 300 euros, the Förderverein will be happy to issue a donation receipt.
Please state your name and address on the remittance form for this purpose.

You will feel great about having done something for our students together with others!

In addition, every participant will receive a participation certificate as a “Thank you”.
