Their use can save lives: rescue dogs are used in emergencies. They can search for missing persons and track down people who are buried.

From January 2022 the rescue dog team of ASB Südhessen will train regularly on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. on the grounds around the Kletterwald Darmstadt.

The fenced-in woods area at Campus Lichtwiese offers ideal conditions for this, without disturbing wild living in the forest.

The TU Darmstadt and the Unisport-Centre are happy to make the area available to the ASB Südhessen for training purposes, so that the rescue services are well prepared for the often difficult tasks in an emergency.

The rescue dog squad of ASB Südhessen currently has 23 members with a total of 23 active dogs.

When the squadron members' cell phones ring at night, it usually means that the police need the support of the rescue dog squad to search for a missing person.

The members are all volunteers for ASB. All dogs are privately owned and live at home with their handlers.

Being active means two training days a week plus instructional classes, demonstrations and, of course, the missions. For these missions, the team members trains week after week on changing areas to prevent the dogs from systematically searching “known” hiding places.

Not to forget the day and night availability at any time of the year and in any weather.

The missions of the rescue dog team are always free of charge. The work is financed solely by donations and contributions from ASB members.

Further information and contact persons can be found on the ASB website.
